    Description

    USA SALES ONLY.  SORRY.
This has to be the rarest GAR Badge I have collected over the years.
    It is of the
    44th National Encampment
    of the
    GAR
    held in
    Atlantic City
    in 1910. (see more below).
It is obviously somewhat worn but still holds it flag colors
    brightly as you can see.
The top part is a flat piece of metal with the Encampment info printed on a sheet
which is bound to this flat piece.
A pin suspends from the flat piece for clothing attachment.
The most interesting item is the suspended solid and round item which resembles a cannon ball,
    but I
was recently told this item is meant to be a "buckeye", since the unit is from Ohio.
(The 4th photo is a photo of a poster advertising the event - it is NOT part of this sale)
    The name "
    OHIO
" is painted thereon, indicating this was for a
    representative of the
    OHIO
    GAR
    .
    Historically:
From September 19th to the 24th, Atlantic City was home to the 44th National GAR Encampment.  At the Encampment were 1,579 delegates
the highest number of delegates at any National Encampment, and over 15,000 Civil War veterans
. Among the 15,000 veterans in Atlantic City for this Encampment was one of the  two surviving Union Corps Commanders, Major General and Medal of Honor recipient Daniel E. Sickles who commanded the 3rd Army Corps,  famed Lt. General Nelson A. Miles, and the “Drummer Boy of Shiloh” Johnny Clem.
