    Description

Important Antique Rosewood Humidor, Brass Bound, with New England Provenance. When found the box retained a family letter documenting the presentation of it in 1927 to Charles C Haddock by his Mother who may have been Sarah Whitney Haddock. She was the daughter of Captain Michael Whitney. His name is on the name plate in 19th c script. The letter tells his home may have been in Beverly Mass. He sailed his ships from Salem Massachusetts to India around 1850. The box was thought to be a shaving box but is clearly a Humidor.   My guess the box was made in England and may have been procured while on a sailing journey. The inlaid brass lift handles match the nameplate design. The wrap around brass binding is beautifully nailed in position and has nice patina. The base may have been updated or is in pristine original condition. No key.
