This National Geographic map illustrates 24 of these people, chosen based on their population and territorial importance. More than 70% of the Russian people are Slavs. The map-side contains a political map of the old Soviet Union (USSR), while the reverse-side contains a version of the same map color-coded according to where the ethno-linguistic groups primarily lived. Each of the 24 featured groups are illustrated in their native dress, with a brief discussion of each. This map is an important part of a study of Russia and the USSR.
